What do you want your life to look like?
Everyone has a dream, something that that was
put in your heart as a child. But for some, life happens, things get in the way,
priorities change and that dream is long forgotten, let go.
For many, that dream is buried so deep it can take
months to even remember that you had a dream, let alone what it was.
When you were a child, how did you picture your
future lifestyle? Did you live on the beach, or maybe a jet pilot? Were you a famous actor or
musician. Did you love to draw or write books?
Picture your lifestyle now. Have you pursued any of
your childhood dreams? Do you live by intention, or by accident? Did you make the decisons to get
you to the place you are in, or did things just happen? Is your life a series of
circumstances that put you in a place you don't desire.
Now picture the lifestyle you want. Your dream lifestyle. What does
it look like. Think about it in detail, where do you live, who is your spouse, what activities do
you enjoy. What would truly be fulfilling to you.
Steps to discover what you truly value:
Exercise 1 -
Figure out what you would do if you didn't have to work
for money.
-
If you had 100 million dollars in the bank and you didn't have to work. What would you do with
your time?
-
What have you always wanted to do, that you haven't done yet
-
If you knew you were going to die in a year, how would you spend your last
year?
-
What brings you the most fulfillment?
-
What would your ideal day look like?
-
What do you really want to do?
-
Where would you really like to go?
-
What do you really want to have?
-
What would you like to be doing in 5 years from now/15 yrs/ 25 yrs?
Exercise 2 -
Question: What is my true purpose in life?
- Answer the above question by
brainstorming. Jot down all phrases or answers that come to mind until you get emotional.
Just keep answering. When something strikes you, and you get teary eyed just thinking about it,
that's your purpose, your "why".
Once you discover what drives you emotionally you
can then make a conscious decision to pursue that dream. When your life is a result of these
decisions, and not simply a series of circumstances, then you are living with intention.
Chart a course for your new life by setting goals.
